Ingrown Toenail (Onychocryptosis)

Ingrown toe nails, also known as onychocryptosis, occur when the sides or corner of the nail penetrate into the skin causing pain, redness and swelling. Our foot care nurses are specially trained to perform non-invasive treatment aimed at reducing the pressure along the inner edge of the toenail. Using professional, sterile equipment, we can help relieve discomfort and prevent further injury to the sensitive skin. We will provide basic wound care if needed and teaching to help you heal at home.
Please be aware that foot care nurses do not perform nail removal surgeries and local anesthetic is not included with our non-invasive treatments. Our foot care nurses are skilled in assessing ingrown nails and determining if a condition requires care beyond their scope of practice. Your nurse will evaluate for signs of infection and advise if additional medical attention is necessary.
